Trip Information - Good to Know

Annapurna Base Camp 7 Days Journey: Best Season and Time

Short duration and moderate altitude make our 7 days Annapurna Base Camp trek available any time of the year. However, for the most spectacular views and elegance of the Annapurna, the Fall and Spring seasons are the most ideal.

The Fall (September to November) features brilliant azure sky, and pleasurable weather perfect for admiring the enviable mountain views. Spring (March-May) on the other hand dazzles the Annapurna Landscape with flourishing rhododendrons but little winter snow may still be present on the trail to ABC and MBC.

Winter (December-February) gives a very peaceful feel on the lonely trail with a blend of cold temperatures and snow while summer (June – August) features heavy rains with some trails cut off from the main road.

7 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek: Level of Difficulty

Our short ABC trek is a week long adventure that is rated as level three and class B journey on the difficulty level. The overall expedition presents only moderate challenge that can be overcome by anyone in their basic fitness and adequate health.

The journey starts very comfortable from Pokhara with a very short gradual hike towards Ghandruk. On the fourth day, you will find yourself at 4130 m elevation of ABC which is regarded a very medium height for the mountain treks.

Daily treks are also not overly long, with most altitude changes taking place under 1000 meters. However, you must be set for the a bit tough hardship when journeying through MBC to ABC. The technical challenges are nil on the route but there will be some sharp inclinations, slopes, long stone steps, and few suspension bridges to cross.

Eligible Participant for our Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Our short ABC trek s a thrilling, exciting yet a very manageable journey ultimately concluding at 4230 m elevation in the mountains. With daily walks lasting only 4 to 6 hours on easy slopes, the altitude concern is very minimal on this journey as only two days will be spent at and above 3000 m.

Additionally, our local guide knows every corner of the Annapurna so he will find you the easiest paths to go along. You will also have the satisfying and pleasing night sleep in the warm lodges throughout the trip.

Therefore, our Annapurna Base Camp trek 7 days journey is suitable for anyone: new walkers, trekkers, experienced hikers, mountaineers, families, and older adults.

However, for those with asthma, respiratory illness or infections, and heart and kidney issues, please get a consultation from your doctor before undertaking the adventure of this journey.

Risk of AMS in our Short ABC Trek

On our Annapurna Base Camp trek 7 days expedition, we have prioritized very gradual acclimatization to reduce altitude-related issues. Still, we can’t guarantee the absence of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), or altitude sickness in our journey which can affect everyone: any fit individual, athletically built, experienced, or inexperienced hikers.

However, we have designed our travel program keeping in mind the daily elevation gain do not exceed 1000 m mark. We encourage you to maintain the steady pace and do not rush to reach the overnight village.

Remain calm, enjoy the surroundings, keep drinking water frequently at regular intervals, and focus on carbohydrate intake in your daily diet. Be vigilant of the symptoms of headache, dizziness, exhaustion, difficulty breathing, and nausea occur.

If so, you should rest where you are and resume your journey only after you feel better. Our guide will keep on checking and monitoring our condition and in the worst case, he may adjust plans as necessary and descend you further.

If you don’t want any type of altitude related issues on your journey, then you can also choose to take one or two tablets of Diamox provided you are not allergic and don’t have any contraindicating issues.

What type of preparation is required for our Annapurna Base Camp 7 Days Trip?

Our Annapurna base camp trek 7 days journey is considered one of the most manageable, easy, and accessible mountain routes in Nepal that can be fairly managed by any fit individual without any extensive prior preparation or training.

However, if you have an idle lifestyle or profession, then you should begin prepping yourself for the journey two months before you arrive in Nepal.

Aerobic workouts such as running, and walking will help boost your lung capacity and strength. Also add weight lifting to your routine so your upper body endurance will built up.

You should also consider swimming that will help promote your joint health and mobility needed for the longer trek. Also set yourself for the unknown and changeable weather in the mountains and the constantly changing terrain.

Other Route to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The common route to the Annapurna Base Camp will typically take you to the base of the Annapurna I southern side. However, there is one other route that will lead you to the tail of the grand Annapurna I but it is on the northern side.

This camp below the northern sidewall of the Annapurna was first established by the French Expedition in 1950 supervised by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal at the 4190 m altitude.

Equally mesmerizing, this camp also offers its visitors the spellbinding sights of the Khangsar Kang (7,485 m), Annapurna I, Tilicho Peak (7,134 m), Nilgiri South (6,839 m), Varaha Chuli, North Nilgiri (7,061 m), and Nilgiri Central (6,940 m).

The route however is a bit challenging, more virgin, and more untouched compared to the more known southern route but it also deserves equal attention and development.

On the other hand, you can also think about slightly lengthening your trip by a few days and integrating the Annapurna circuit or the Poon Hill trek into our short Annapurna Base Camp trek adventure.

Sleeping and Eating Arrangements

For the seven days journey to the Annapurna Base Camp, we have handpicked for you a good comfortable quality and charming guesthouses in our planned overnight villages.

The ongoing enhancement in the Annapurna region has made possible the availability of the modern facilities in these lodges such as WiFi, hot water, attached bathrooms and more.

As for the eating plans, you will have three times meals on the route in these lodges with fresh fruit served after each dinner. At the lodges, you can find Dal Vat, potatoes, eggs, fried rice, Manchurian, pasta, pizza, momos, and more options.

Transportation

In terms of transportation management for our short Annapurna Base Camp, a private jeep or car will be utilized for your transportation between Pokhara and Nayapul.

The Must-Have Permits for our Short ABC Trek

Before we take on the journey of the short Annapurna Base Camp trek, it is very vital that we possess two specific permits for the trek. The first one is the permit known as the Annapurna Conservation Area Project permit abbreviated as ACAP and the other one is the Trekkers’ Information Management System Card abbreviated as TIMS.

These two permits are easily available at the tourism office if Kathmandu or Pokhara. The TIMS permit is priced at NPR 2000 per trekker and plays an important role in keeping the track of the trekkers on the mountain route in case of any emergencies.

The ACAP permit costing NPR 3000 per hiker provides an open access to the restricted part of the Annapurna area.

Our guide will look after the permit application procedures and the cost is also already included in the complete cost of our Annapurna Base Camp trek 7 days package.

Travel Insurance

Please understand that travel insurance is a must-have document for procuring the necessary permits for our 7 days Annapurna Base Camp trek. You must share your right legally valid insurance policy paper with us to finalize our journey.

Besides, travel insurance whether it is a compulsion or not must be obtained for the added support and protection for all your international journeys.

Particularly in Nepal, where the terrain is uneven and hilly, and remoteness is synonymous with nature, travel insurance is a must that can protect you from any misfortune that may occur on the route.

When climbing up the slopes of the Annapurna region, when tackling the sharp descent, or when traversing the forest, you may fall, bruise, get fractured legs, or sprained ankles.

If you are too sensitive to the high altitude, you may even get affected by serious altitude sickness necessitating the immediate helicopter transfer.

All these medical and transfer costs will cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars if not safeguarded by the right insurance policy. Therefore, when you are procuring the travel insurance for our Annapurna Base Camp trek 7 days trip, please ensure you have helicopter rescue and transfer included up to the altitude of at least 4200 m.

Your policy should also include the expenses for the medical bills, additional days during the trip, unforeseen postponement or delay of the trip or flight, theft or damage to your belongings, etc.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek 7 Days Trip Vs Classic 14 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp trek 7 days trip is a journey to the heart of the Annapurna region- that will take you straight to the Annapurna Sanctuary or the Annapurna Base Camp.

Along the route, you will travel through the very lively Gurung settlements of Ghandruk, Chhomrong, Himalayan Hotel, and MBC before arriving at ABC.

However, the Annapurna region also hides two other beautiful treasures named Poon Hill and Ghorepani. The Ghorepani is the Magar village very near to the 3210 m high Poon Hill. It is one of the best and most known lookout points for the Himalayas of Nepal.

The short Annapurna Base Camp trek because of its time limitation will avoid taking you to these two stunningly beautiful settlements. If you wish to see the magical elegance of Ghorepani and Poon Hill as well in your Annapurna Base Camp journey, then you should engage in the classic 14 days Annapurna Base Camp trek.

Ultimately, the choice will come down to your time and budget availability as well as your health. Remember, the 14 days ABC trek is one week longer than the short ABC trek and is a bit difficult and expensive as well.
