Day 1: Pokhara – Kande – Australian Camp – Pothana – Pitam Deurali
Starting Altitude: Pokhara – approx. 820 m Trek Starting Point: Kande – approx. 1,770 m Overnight: Pitam Deurali – approx. 2,100 m Walking Distance: approximately 6–8 km Walking Time: minimum 3 hours | maximum 5 hours Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Your Mardi Himal Trek begins with a scenic morning drive from Pokhara toward Kande, a small settlement on the Pokhara Baglung road. From Kande, the walking begins on a well established mountain trail leading through small settlements, farmland and peaceful woodland.
The first section gradually climbs toward Australian Camp, a beautiful viewpoint where the surrounding landscape begins to open up. On a clear day, you can catch your first impressive views toward Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).
From Australian Camp, the trail continues toward Pothana, a traditional mountain settlement with teahouses and spectacular mountain surroundings. This is a wonderful place to stop for a warm drink or lunch while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Annapurna foothills.
After Pothana, the trail continues through oak and rhododendron forest toward Pitam Deurali. This section feels increasingly peaceful as you leave the busier lower trails behind.
Pitam Deurali is an important junction on the Mardi Himal route and provides the perfect setting for your first night in the mountains.

Starting Altitude: Pitam Deurali – approx. 2,100 m Destination: Low Camp – approx. 2,970–3,000 m Walking Distance: approximately 8–11 km Walking Time: minimum 4 hours | maximum 6 hours Difficulty: Moderate
After breakfast, we leave Pitam Deurali and enter one of the most beautiful sections of the Mardi Himal trekking route.
The trail gradually climbs through a magnificent forest dominated by rhododendron, oak and other Himalayan vegetation. During spring, the rhododendron forests can be particularly beautiful, with flowers adding colour to the green forest, otherwise green landscape.
As you gain altitude, the atmosphere changes. The trail becomes quieter, the forest feels more remote and occasional openings between the trees provide glimpses of the mountains.
We pass through Forest Camp, a small collection of mountain lodges surrounded by woodland. From here, the trail continues uphill toward Low Camp.
As you approach Low Camp, the forest begins to open and the first broader views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna range appear. The change from dense forest to open mountain ridge is one of the most enjoyable transitions of the trek.
Low Camp sits at around 3,000 metres, so we take the afternoon to rest, stay hydrated and enjoy the mountain atmosphere.

Today brings us above the forest and onto the spectacular Mardi Himal ridge.
Leaving Low Camp after breakfast, the trail gradually climbs toward Badal Danda. The name itself means “cloud ridge,” and the landscape here feels completely different from the forested trail of the previous day.
The trees become shorter and more scattered, while the mountain panorama becomes increasingly open. Looking across the valleys, you can see the dramatic Himalayan landscape surrounding the Annapurna region.
On clear days, the views toward Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), Mardi Himal, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli are extraordinary. Machhapuchhre dominates the skyline, appearing remarkably close from the ridge.
The trail continues along the high ridge toward High Camp. The walking is not extremely long, but the increasing altitude means we maintain a steady, comfortable pace rather than rushing.
Reaching High Camp is a special moment. From here, the mountains seem to surround you, and the changing colours of the afternoon and evening light create wonderful opportunities for photography.
We enjoy a warm meal, rest well and prepare for the next morning’s exciting hike toward the high viewpoint and Mardi Himal Base Camp.

Today is the highlight of your Mardi Himal Trek.
We start early in the morning, when the mountain air is fresh and the sky is often at its clearest. The trail climbs steadily from High Camp toward the upper ridge.
The landscape becomes increasingly alpine, with fewer trees and much more open mountain terrain. As we climb, the views become wider and more dramatic.
The Mardi Himal Upper Viewpoint, at around 4,200 metres, provides an extraordinary panorama of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
For trekkers who are properly prepared and feeling well, the journey can continue toward Mardi Himal Base Camp, commonly listed at around 4,500 metres. The final section is more demanding, so we walk slowly and allow plenty of time for rest.
Standing in this high Himalayan landscape, with the enormous mountains rising around you, is an unforgettable experience.
After enjoying the views and taking photographs, we begin our descent. We return toward High Camp and continue down to Low Camp for the night.
Although this is the longest and most demanding walking day, the spectacular scenery makes every step worthwhile.

Tucked away in the shadow of the majestic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna range, this lesser known route is quickly becoming a favorite among those looking for a compact adventure in the Himalayas.
Whether you are a time conscious traveler or someone seeking a high reward journey without the crowd and chaos of popular routes, the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek is a perfect choice. In this adventure, you’ll be walking through unspoiled forest trails, emerging onto high ridgelines with panoramic views, and experiencing the warmth of rural Nepalese hospitality. It’s short, it’s sweet, and it’s absolutely unforgettable.
-What Makes the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek So Special? The magic of the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek lies in its incredible diversity, natural serenity, and panoramic rewards that rival longer treks. While other treks like Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit require weeks of commitment, Mardi Himal lets you witness Himalayan grandeur in just three days without compromising the quality of the experience.
This trek takes you through a rich tapestry of landscapes. The journey begins in subtropical forests filled with rhododendrons, maples, and ferns, gradually transitioning to alpine zones with grassy slopes and rugged ridgelines. Above the treeline, the world opens up to a stunning theater of snow-clad peaks, including Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Mardi Himal itself.
-Perfect for Beginners, Photographers, and Nature Lovers The Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek is accessible to trekkers of all skill levels, making it ideal for beginners who want a taste of Himalayan trekking without venturing too deep into extreme altitudes. It’s also a dream destination for photographers and nature lovers. The path offers changing light, mystical clouds hugging the cliffs, and wide-open skies reflecting golden sunrises and colorful sunsets.
Every step along the Mardi trail offers Instagram worthy frames, from moss covered forests to stone paved teahouse paths, and ridgelines that drop into deep green valleys. The trek’s peaceful environment allows visitors to feel immersed in the Himalayas without the noise and rush of over-trekked routes.
-A Cultural Gem While the mountains dominate the horizon, the heart of the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek lies in its local communities. Along the route, you’ll encounter the rich traditions of the Gurung and Magar ethnic groups. These communities have preserved their culture, hospitality, and lifestyle for generations, offering you a rare glimpse into mountain life in Nepal.
Teahouses along the way serve not only as accommodation but also as windows into the soul of the Himalayas. Enjoy a warm cup of masala tea by the fire, listen to folk songs, and share stories with local families and fellow trekkers. Even in such a short span, this trek provides meaningful cultural moments that stay with you long after the journey ends.
-Off the Beaten Path, Yet Easily Accessible One of the best features of the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek is its accessibility. The trek begins just a short drive from Pokhara Nepal’s beautiful lake city making it a convenient option for travelers who have limited time but still want to experience the magic of the Himalayas.
Despite its ease of access, the trail itself remains relatively quiet and untouched compared to neighboring routes like the Annapurna Base Camp Trek or Ghorepani Poon Hill. This means you’ll enjoy a sense of solitude and serenity, allowing for a more personal connection with the landscape and yourself.
-Unmatched Mountain Views in Just 5 Days The highlight of the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek is undoubtedly the close up, unobstructed views of the Himalayas. Few treks in Nepal deliver such incredible scenery in such a short period. You’ll walk ridgelines that make you feel like you’re floating between peaks, and you’ll see the sharp, snowy face of Machhapuchhre so close it feels like you could reach out and touch it.
From sunrise to sunset, every angle offers something spectacular. Morning rays paint the white peaks in shades of gold, while evening light casts long shadows across deep valleys. This is the kind of trek where each moment is photo worthy, and every vista fills your soul with awe.
-When to Go for the Best Experience The Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek is best enjoyed during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months provide the clearest skies, best mountain visibility, and comfortable temperatures.
Spring brings blooming rhododendrons and wildflowers, adding vibrant colors to your trek. Autumn, on the other hand, delivers crystal-clear panoramas and stable weather perfect for photography and long-distance views.
Although winter (December to February) is also possible, it brings colder temperatures and potential snowfall at higher altitudes. Monsoon season (June to August) is not recommended due to slippery trails and cloudy skies.
-Do You Need a Guide for the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek? While the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek can technically be done without a guide, hiring one brings several advantages especially if you’re short on time. A professional guide ensures you follow the most efficient path, helps you interact meaningfully with locals, provides safety in case of altitude issues, and enhances your understanding of the landscape and culture.
Additionally, having a local guide helps support sustainable tourism by creating jobs and empowering Himalayan communities. Most reputable trekking companies also arrange permits and transportation, leaving you free to enjoy the journey.
-Permits Required for the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek To complete the Mardi Himal 5 Days Trek, you’ll need two permits:
ACAP Permit (Annapurna Conservation Area Project)
TIMS Card (Trekkers Information Management System)
If you’re traveling with a licensed trekking company, they will usually arrange all permits for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Mardi Himal Trek?
The Mardi Himal Trek is a short and scenic trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It takes you through peaceful forests, traditional mountain landscapes, alpine meadows and spectacular viewpoints overlooking Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and the surrounding peaks.
It is especially popular with travelers who want a genuine Himalayan trekking experience without committing to a long trek.
Do I need previous trekking experience?
No,previous trekking experience is helpful but not essential for the Mardi Himal Trek.
Many first-time trekkers successfully complete this route. The important things are reasonable fitness, good walking shoes, appropriate clothing and a positive attitude.
Is there a risk of altitude sickness on Mardi Himal Trek?
There is some risk because the trek reaches above 4,000 metres.
However, the trek is relatively short, and a sensible itinerary with gradual altitude gain helps reduce the risk. You should never ignore symptoms such as persistent headache, unusual weakness, dizziness, nausea or difficulty breathing.
The most important rule is to listen to your body and communicate with your guide.
Is Mardi Himal Trek suitable for families?
Yes, depending on the age and fitness of the children.
For families, we recommend a relaxed itinerary rather than trying to rush the trek simply to finish in five days. Children should be comfortable with several hours of walking and changing weather conditions.
A private trek also allows the walking pace and overnight stops to be adjusted when necessary.
What type of accommodation is available?
Accommodation is mainly in tea houses and mountain lodges.
The facilities are simple compared with hotels in Kathmandu or Pokhara, but they provide the essentials needed after a day of trekking. Rooms are generally basic, and bathrooms may be shared in some places.
The charm of Mardi Himal is partly in experiencing this simple mountain lifestyle.
What food can I expect during the trek?
Tea houses normally offer a variety of local and basic international meals.
You can expect dishes such as:
Dal Bhat
Noodles
Fried rice
Pasta
Soups
Eggs
Potatoes
Momos
Tibetan-style bread
Tea and coffee
Dal Bhat is particularly popular among trekkers because it is filling and provides good energy for a long walking day.
. Can I charge my phone and camera?
Yes, charging facilities are available at many tea houses.
However, charging may cost extra at some lodges, and electricity can occasionally be limited. Carrying a power bank is therefore a very good idea.
Is Mardi Himal less crowded than the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Mardi Himal has traditionally been considered a quieter alternative to some of the more established Annapurna routes.
However, its popularity has grown significantly. During peak trekking seasons, you should still expect other trekkers on the trail and at popular viewpoints.
If you want a quieter experience, choosing less busy travel dates and starting your walking days early can make a noticeable difference.
Why should I choose a local trekking company for Mardi Himal Trek?
A local trekking company understands the trail beyond what is written in an itinerary.
We know the practical details where to stay, how fast to walk, how conditions can change, and when it is better to adjust a plan rather than simply follow a fixed schedule.
Our approach is simple: your safety, comfort and experience come first. We want you to return home with more than photographs, with memories of Nepal that make you want to come back.
Is Mardi Himal Trek worth doing if I only have 5 days?
Yes,especially if you want a short Himalayan experience from Pokhara.
Five days gives you enough time to experience the forests, mountain villages, high-altitude landscape and spectacular views without needing a long holiday.
If your priority is a short, scenic and authentic Himalayan trek, Mardi Himal is an excellent choice.
What makes Mardi Himal Trek special?
For us, the biggest attraction is the combination of short duration and extraordinary mountain scenery.
Within only a few days, you move from green hills and forests into a high Himalayan landscape with enormous views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna range.
It feels like a genuine Himalayan adventure without requiring weeks away from work or family.
